Teething Bites...and Other Fundamental Truths

Olivia has been teething for weeks and has nothing to show for it. She still has only five teeth with two teasers that have looked like they're about to pop through any moment. They've looked that way during this whole miserable month of teething. She's had excessive drool, poop, and crankiness, but no new teeth. She has, however, left her mark. She has bitten or chewed on both end tables (the one made of wood and the one made of metal and slate), the leather couch, the leather chair, door hinges, window sills, and all of her toys. All are scarred, except the things made of metal and/or slate.

I think Olivia is as anxious as I am for her new teeth to come through. She is especially conscientious about her oral hygiene. Not a day goes by that she doesn't carry around a couple of new tooth brushes from the stash of extra stuff in our bathroom.

Trying to decide which kind of dental floss to use

What the heck, she'll use them both.

Other Fundamental Truths

  1. Urine smells so much worse when it's on the furnishings than when it's in a diaper. I finally bought a rug for Olivia's bathroom and tonight she piddled all over it as I was getting her in the tub.
  2. Motherhood changes one's views about what is and what isn't gross. While she was in the tub after the above mentioned piddling, I let Olivia stick her rubber ducky in my mouth. Even after it occurred to me that perhaps she hadn't been finished tinkling when I put her in the tub, I continued to play the "swish the duck in the bath water, put it in my mouth, put it in Mommy's mouth (swish and repeat)" game with Olivia.

We are experiencing the same teething troubles...except ours have only been going on for about a week. We haven't tried chewing any furniture yet...but we like chins. Marks are made.

I love those fundamental truths! It's incredible how your views can change.

At least she's already practicing good dental hygiene. Hopefully the teething phase will pass before she chews all the furniture in the house.
