(So) Happy Halloween (is Over)!

In October we have bats in our belfries,

skeletons in our closets,

and pirates next door.

I don't mind the bats and the skeletons (especially since Olivia made them), and the pirate ship is kind of fun--to a point.  We get lots of extra traffic on our usually quiet street during the month of October.  And Halloween night is insane!  The notoriety of living next door to the pirate ship comes at a cost (but comes in handy when directing people to our house--at any time of the year).  We handed out over 10 lbs of candy last night.  We were mobbed by hordes of cute, small children and enormous high school students who should have been done with their trick-or-treating days years ago.  There were even a few parents who held out a bag for me to put candy in!  On a positive note, the weather was perfect.  I sat outside in a t-shirt, shorts, and flip-flops.  And on a negative note, the weather was perfect.  (No, that's not a typo.)  The weather was perfect for teenage girls to parade around in next to nothing, some of them in bustiers.  Who lets their kids dress and leave the house like that?  The worst costume I saw was inexplicable from the front and appalling from the back.  It was worn by a 10-ish year old girl.  It was a one piece, padded, tri-color costume.  The top was blue, the middle was tan, and the bottom was black.  From the front it looked like three wide stripes.  When the girl turned around, I realized what her costume was: a very short blue shirt, a tan midriff, and black ultra-low rise pants.  Above the black pants was a black thong and above that the words "Tramp Stamp" were "tattooed."  Are you kidding me?  I don't know if she even knew what she was wearing.  I wonder if her parents did and if they bought it for her.

To help get that horrifying image out of your mind, here are some  lots of pictures of our cutie.

All ready for school.  I especially like the knee pad!

We went to the trunk or treat at the church on Friday night.
A darling ladybug and a bug catcher.  (I was a butterfly)

 And, posing...

And, more posing.

The kids were allowed to wear their costumes to dance class on Saturday.  Olivia also went to birthday party on Saturday where Halloween costumes were the requested attire.
 Getting ready to fly away.

 Checking out her wings.

 Passe?

And ninja-ballerina-ladybug.

Olivia got to wear her costume to school yesterday, too.  We definitely got our money's worth with this costume!
 At the parade.

She's such a ham!

I didn't get any pictures of her last night.  It was just a bit too crazy.  The first trick-or-treaters came at 5:00.  We closed up shop at 8:15, when we were completely burnt out, and also out of candy.

What? Trick or Treating in short sleeves? That is CRAZY! We were grateful to get away with fleece under our costumes this year instead of having to put the winter coat on top.

I love the family costume idea--clever!
